O Thongsrinoon (O)
• O is a co-founder and served as CEO of POPidols. He has over 10 years of international experience in the Internet, digital media, wireless, and game industry. I was fortunate to have started out at EarthLink Network as tech support. EarthLink was a new business formed around the same time as other Internet luminaries such as Yahoo, Amazon, and eBay.
• From there, his career was on fast-track, growing at the same torrid pace as did many companies during the dotcom boom. After three years of learning and finally hitting glass ceiling, he left EarthlLnk to accept offer as Director of Product Management at LAUNCH (Yahoo acquired LAUNCH late 2000).
• He left LAUNCH in May of 2000 and moved to Thailand to start POPidols. The initial mission was to have POPidols be the provider of Asian pop culture content for American market. Six months into product development, dotcom bubble burst. All our clients and partners either filed bankruptcy or shifted to survival mode.
• The event completely wiped out our channel for revenue. By then, POPidols had already committed most of its financial resource into building the platform. We were in trouble and the next four years saw us in full survival mode. |
|
• Much to our credit (or stupidity) we persevered. In 2006, POPidols became the first IT company in Thailand that was able to use our IP
(intellectual property) as collateral. This is a monumental achievement for a country there's utter lack of ability to do valuation for
non-tangible asset like IP. |
